When to Schedule Baby Milestone Sessions

In just twelve months, your baby changes more than they will at any other time in their life. From the sleepy newborn stage to the wobbly toddler phase, every few months brings something brand new. Professional milestone photography captures these fleeting stages before they’re gone. The most popular milestone sessions are at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, but you don’t have to follow a set schedule. Every baby develops at their own pace, and sometimes the best time to capture them is when they’re showing off a brand-new skill or personality trait.

• 3 Months: Bright-eyed, full of curiosity, and starting to smile socially.
• 6 Months: Sitting up (with a bit of support), showing off rolls, giggles, and playful personality.
• 9 Months: Big smiles, crawling, pulling up, and becoming a true little explorer.
• 12 Months: Standing, walking, or smashing their very first birthday cake!

As for the time of day, I find mornings are the best time for kids this age. I recommend scheduling for around 10 am— after breakfast but before nap time— when they are often their happiest. Some babies do great right after their mid-day nap. The closer to dinnertime, though, the less likely we are to have a cooperative child.

Baby milestone sessions don’t have to focus only on your little one. Including parents, siblings, and even pets makes the photos more personal and meaningful.

First Birthday Cake Smash Photography

The first birthday is a major milestone, and a cake smash session is the perfect way to celebrate. Your baby gets their very own cake to dig into, play with, and (maybe) eat. The result? Adorable expressions, funny moments, and a gallery full of personality-packed images.

Sessions typically include a mix of:

• Traditional portraits of your baby in a cute outfit before the cake comes out.
• Cake smash fun with plenty of frosting, laughter, and sometimes a bit of chaos.
• Clean-up photos, because a freshly bathed baby wrapped in a towel is just as sweet.

Don’t worry about the mess; the studio is equipped with a sink that perfectly fits a one-year-old, so you can wash up before heading home.

A Relaxed & Stress-Free Experience

Babies are unpredictable, and that’s perfectly okay. As both a professional photographer and a mom of two, I understand the ups and downs of baby schedules. Sessions are flexible and unhurried, allowing plenty of time for breaks, feedings, or just letting your baby warm up to the camera.

If your child isn’t cooperating right away, we pause and try again. My goal is always to capture natural, happy expressions, without pressure on parents or baby.
